The animal shelter opened in 2012, but recent years have shown that its available capacity and space is more and more limited. Kennels are full, halls are crowded, storage is at a premium, and they need more space to work.
This proposition includes $9.6 million to expand the building, adding a surgical suite with recovery areas, storage, and more kennel space.
By adding capacity, it is hoped that animals will be less stressed, and maybe we can get more of them adopted and fewer of them euthanized. That’s always a last resort, and tends to happen when the shelter is overcrowded.
